Author Guideline for Policy Brief
The JIBHS is an institutional, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal by Madda Walabu University's College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS). The journal seeks to offer a reliable and long-lasting venue for the publication of excellent multidisciplinary research in the fields of public health, clinical medicine, biomedical sciences, health systems, and related fields. The goals of JIBHS are to increase the visibility of MWU's research outputs, foster evidence-based policy and practice, and strengthen academic collaboration both domestically and internationally.
JIBHS will operate using a current, fully automated online journal management system, ensuring transparent submission, double-blind peer review, editorial decision-making, and publication workflows. The journal will adhere strictly to international publication standards, including COPE and ICMJE guidelines, strong plagiarism screening, clear declarations of authorship and conflicts of interest, and ethical compliance for human and animal research. English will be the primary language of publication to maximize global reach and impact.
The journal will publish a wide range of manuscript types, including original research, reviews, policy briefs, case studies, editorials, and others, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and policy-relevant research. Initially published biannually and transitioning to quarterly issues, JIBHS will follow an online-first, open-access model with Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) assigned to all articles.
Governed and hosted by MWU CMHS, JIBHS will have a merit-based editorial structure with national and international representation. Sustainability will be ensured through institutional support, modest article processing charges with waiver mechanisms, strategic partnerships, research grants, and volunteer academic service during the initial phase. Through phased indexing and visibility strategies, the journal aims to achieve inclusion in AJOL, DOAJ, Google Scholar, and, in the long term, Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed/MEDLINE.
Overall, JIBHS will be expected to significantly increase institutional research output and citations, strengthen postgraduate and PhD publication pathways, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhance the translation of research evidence into health practice and policy in Ethiopia and beyond.
